OBJECTIVES

The main objective of the study is to develop a conflict risk and mitigation plan, specifically adapted to the Bakassi area, including multiple competing uses of natural resources, the presence of several nationalities, and a post-conflict environment.

Specific Objectives

The specific objectives of this task include:

  • Carry out a thorough review of legal documents and instruments (International Conventions, laws, ordinances, decrees, decisions , programs, orders ...etc.) pertaining to conflict risk and resource usage.
  • Review the Impetus (short-term policy or legal reform, or longer-term education, wealth creation or peace-building programmes) for conflict management in Cameroon especially in the mangrove ecosystems
  • Undertake conflict analysis and propose consensus building strategies
  • In a Participatory manner, identify and analyses conflict associated with the effective and sustainable management of natural resources and particularly with the expansion of mangrove ecosystems and their management.
  • Develop a conflict risk and mitigation plan (most practicable) for conflict management on the vulnerable mangrove ecosystems and social system of the Bakassi peninsular.
  • Analyse conflict risks associated with mangrove and other natural resource use and propose mitigation measures.
  • Elaborate conflict management techniques pertaining to the different conflicts and conflict risk within the Bakassi peninsular
  • To develop an implementation (operational) plan for conflict risk associated with the mangrove resource and ecosystems in the Bakassi Peninsula.
  • To identify monitoring indicators that will reveal potential impacts and outcomes
  • To Outline areas of capacity building that will promote more equitable processes of consensual negotiation across the Bakassi peninsular
